Salem is one of the most beautiful places in Tamil Nadu. The district is known for its alluring landscape and temples (about 750 of them!) of various shapes and sizes, dating to the Chola, Pandya and Chera era. Yeracaud: Anyone who visits Salem, needs to visit the enchanting Yeracaud. Though it may not be as famous as an Ooty or a Kodaikanal, Yeracaud has its own charm. Situated 30 kilometers north of Salem, Yeracaud is located at an altitude of 4920 feet on the Shevaroy hills, at the Eastern Ghats. The hills are lofty and the climate is serene here. You can find a lot of orange groves and coffee plantations here. You can also visit the Shevaroy temple, which is also the highest point in Yeracaud.
Hosur: Visit Hosur for its natural beauty. This 90 kilometer town is an industrial center with its natural beauty intact. Thali, also known as 'Little England' is jus situated 25 km from Hosur.
Mettur Dam: The Mettur Dam, across the River Kaveri is also a good picnic spot. Mettur is a huge source of irrigation to districts like Thanjavur and Trichy and is also a big water source to spawn fish.
Aragalur: Aragular located 74 kilometers from Salem is known for its amazing range of temples. There is also an imposing Buddha statue at Thivagnur village at the outskirts of Araglur village.
Kolli Hills: Kolli Hills at an altitude of 1,190 meters, is a famous hill station that is second only to Yeracaud. You can find one of the oldest temples in Tamil Nadu here, known as . Hogenakkal Waterfalls: Hogenakkal Waterfalls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Tamil Nadu. It is situated at a distance of 114-km from Salem and 133-km from Bangalore. It is a part of the River Kaveri and is at an estimated 250 meters above sea level. The main attraction of Hogenakkal Waterfalls falls is its vertical plunge from a height of 20 meters with a booming sound. Surrounded by mountains, it is a good place to chill out during holidays.
