Salem has made rapid strides in the field of education especially in the last 20 years. The government medical college called Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College that started in 1986. It is accredited by the MCI and in one year, there are 75 MBBS seats that are offered. The classes are conducted in the Medical College, located ten kilometers from the hospital. The hospital is being upgraded according to the model of the respectable All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) with a funding of Rs.120 crores from the assistance of Central Government.
